Offshore Friday June 7th

Fished the scarp on Fiday with some friends and had a good day all around.  Heading out of the inlet @ 4:15 we saw our neighbors cut the last corner a little short and were up on the beach.  Somehow we managed to get them off (both engines and the drain plug were high and dry) and got going again.  Lines in at about 7am and 45 minutes later the bite started.  First fsh on was a small wahoo, then a double header of dolphin 30 min later, a couple of spit hooks and short strikes for the next hour or so, a few bailers, a nice bull that put a hurtin' on my buddy Jeff from Michigan, a very nice bull that we got to the boatside and in the hustle to gaff- he got really lucky.  Next the shotgun went off and a blackfin tuna saw the icebox after bringing in  200 yards of line. My largest cuda so far hit the shotgun as well creating a lot of excitement, sore arms and then dissappointment (realizing it was not a big hoo at boatside) and then we caght a few more bailers and cows over the next several hours.  We decided to stop and drop the jigging rods for a while hoping for a grouper or more tuna. We didn't manage to get our target but we did manage to jig a 20lb little-tunny, another dolphin and a triggerfish in 30 minutes time.  The weather was fantastic all day and made good time getting back.

Carolina Slam 6/7/08

We were on the boat by for 4am Saturday morning, and after lending a hand to some fellow fisherman,
Nobodys Business broke through the jetties around 5. Nice smooth ride out to 150 feet of water. Ocean as slick as could be, lines were
in just after sun up and with mahi skying around the boat it felt like it was going to be a great day. After about 30 mins
a teen wahoo struck the port outrigger and we hooked up, was atleast one more with him but hit didnt take, had the wahoo on ice
in short order. Not 5 mintues after redeploying we lost a small mahi, then after redeploying the spread we doubled up on gaffer mahi. Decked a few fish after some confusion
with a two newbies in the crew. Everything went smoothly after that, everyone knew there role and we kept decking mahi. Mixed it up alittle
mid day with a football blackfin taking the center bait 150yds back finishing off the slam and then right after redeploying a 30lb cuda hit the same center bait.
Decked some more mahi and felt like the wind was picking up around 230 so we started to pack it in, had everything in and decided to drop a butterfly.
Second drop got bit off by a nice wahoo, rerigged and dropped down and immediately hooked up with a 20lb tunny. Took a break from the jig and
let someone else try, shortly he hooked and landed a 10lb mahi. Ended up loosing a few fish on the jig today(grouper?) and landed a nice trigger too.
After adding some color to the fish box we headed back in, alittle sloppy the last 15 miles but nothing over 2/3. Was an awesome day out there and you couldnt of asked for more

Water was about 76 on and off all day, flyers everywhere.

Scarp Trip on Friday, May 23rd

Left the dock Friday morning at about 5:30 with Jules, my dad, my nephew and Mike. It was a little bumpy heading out so we slowed to about 25kt. Lines in around 8 and the first bite came @ 10:23 on the stbd outrigger (pink/white seawitch/med. ballyhoo). As Julie pulled back on the throttles and we got my nephew in the belt, the stbd flat line took off. So it was dad and Ben fighting their first ever Mahi's. What seemed like an eternity later, both were on ice. 2 Hours later a skyrocketing Wahoo in the spread but spit the hook and then a peanut we gave back to grow. Next was another gaffer followed by another missed wahoo. Then as we were dicussing heading back, the outrigger clip popped and our last dolphin of the day landed in the cooler. The ocean was like glass all day and we were able to run home in the mid to upper 30's with ease.

Game On

Fished the Georgetown Hole on Saturday.  Only took two fish (nice Bull and a bailer), but reports of many nice fish from other areas are floating around.  Had a rough start as I forgot the Ballyhoo and didn't end up leaving the inlet until well after 6 to face 3-4 foot seas with an occasional 5 footer just for fun on our 70 mile journey.  We were only able to run 20-28 mph on the way out and found no weed/temp lines in the GT Hole area.  No flyers, no tuna, and no wahoo.   $435 worth of fuel and two fish- sometimes you go to the wrong spot and thats all all there is to it.  Nice gentle role once on the spot and were able to run 35+ mph on the way home.  Will add some pics soon.

Getting Ready For The New Season

The weather is getting nicer and the water warming up.  Won't be long before we head out for our season opener.  Hope to find some huge yellow fin, dolphin, and of course Mr. Wahoo on that first trip out and wanted to wish everyone a safe and productive season.  My wife and I have moved to Murrells Inlet and have relocated our boat from Little River down here as well.  We will be docking at Voyagers Veiw this season starting April 1st.  I guess we need to learn where to go on the south end now but are super excited to live only 45 seconds away from the boat.  I will start posting regularly once we get out and welcome your stories as well in the mean time through the Forums.
